IWD Part II: Inspiring Leaders are Open and Always Learning
In Day II of our blog series celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD), 8th March (IWD), we hear how Operations Manager, Aisling Moore and Digital Services Manager, Aisling Rossiter inspire at Abtran by being open, helping others and sharing a passion for learning.
Aisling Moore is Operations Manager for one of Abtran’s Largest Utilities Clients:
Aisling was nominated by her colleagues for her dedication, hard work and always being open to helping her team with any query, large or small.
There has been a lot of significant moments during my twelve-year career at Abtran. In terms of the top three, I would have to say my progression within the company and the solid relationships I have built, together with the successful project implementation of a new system within the Operation. My career progression from Advisor to Operations Manager has been my proudest achievement to date in the company.
My Mother, while she is sadly no longer with us, is my greatest influence. Through seeing the world as she did and through her exceptional work ethic, I have been given invaluable life lessons that I believe have helped and guided me to where I am and the person I’ve become today.
Deirdre McCarthy, Head of Performance within Abtran, would have to be the biggest influence throughout my career. Her extraordinary way of thinking, analytical mind set, persistence in driving results and her ability to bring out the best in me, inspires me greatly.
Believe in the People around you
I’d like to think I inspire others by expecting the most of them. Most of us will rise to the expectations of people that believe in us. Find reasons to believe in the people around you and communicate your high expectations. Encourage and let them know that you have faith that they will achieve what they set out to do. This can be a really great motivator.
Make it Meaningful
Doing meaningful work, getting recognition and having the tools to be successful are the most important motivators for me. I get to work closely with great people each day and I do meaningful work that makes a difference for our company, our clients and their customers. During one of my recent projects, we had the opportunity to develop a new system. It meant a lot to me to be selected to lead the team and we all worked very well together, since we knew the importance of the project and its impact on the company. The project was delivered successfully and also led to shared recognition at both team and department level.
It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon
I’m delighted to be recognised by my colleagues for my commitment to the team. For me personally, it’s about always striving to go above and beyond what you think you can achieve and then going for it. The key piece of advice I would give to anyone who works in Abtran is believe in your ability. Utilise the resources around you to help develop others and succeed. If and when you experience setbacks remember it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon.
Aisling Rossiter manages the performance of Abtran’s fast-moving Digital Services department. Aisling inspires her colleagues through her relentless passion for learning and sharing new ideas.
Stand out Moments
‘One of the stand out moments of my career at Abtran was joining the Digital Service Team. I’ve gained so much experience in this role by working across so many different clients and parts of the business. Delivering service digitally has a lot to do with making sure everyone’s on the same page from the client to the team and back again. It’s exciting, innovative, fast-paced and always changing.
Stay Open. Keep Learning.
The single piece of advice I’d give to anyone looking for a career in Digital is that you must have an absolute passion for it. If you love change, are open to new ideas and have a passion for learning, Digital could certainly be a fantastic, career path for you.
I feel so privileged to work with such a fantastic group of dedicated and talented people and they are an ever-motivating influence. When I think of the people who have influenced me most across my personal life and career, I have to mention my parents. They have supported me unconditionally throughout. As hardworking people, they’ve taught me many life lessons and values that I still hold today. I would not be where I am if it was not for their enduring support and guidance.
Obtaining my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees early on is certainly up there as proudest moments. Going through education has taught me how to be open minded, creative and analytical and I use these skills every day. I am always looking to learn and implement new ideas and am consistently looking to share new ways of doing things with the team.
When it comes to Digital, every individual’s contribution counts so celebrating small wins as well as big achievements is very important. I’m passionate about helping others to achieve their best and while I expect the most out of those I work with, I know they in turn expect the same from me.
Instilling passion and excellence in everything we do in Digital is something I personally strive for every day and I’m delighted to be recognised for this. At the end of the day, it’s the people I work with that bring out my passion and love of learning and I look forward to sharing and exchanging ideas with my colleagues for many years to come as together, we continue on this ever-changing Digital journey.
